14. PROGRAMMING HINTS
All commands sent to the printer are processed in the order in which they are received. All
values or “settings” of these commands are “set” (stored in the printer’s memory) if they are
valid values, each command “set” has no effect on, or after other command settings.
The following command’s values are not “set” under the indicated condition...
a) Top Margin Set exceeds the Page Length
b) Text Margin Set exceeds the Page Length - Top Margin
c) Right Margin Set is less than the Left Margin Set
d) Left Margin Set is greater than the Right Margin Set
(1) Font Selection Hierarchy
When the printer receives a font select command, which specifies desired font attributes,
the attribute information is stored but is not implemented. When each printable character
is received, the stored font attributes are compared to the actual fonts that exist (either
resident fonts or cartridge fonts) and the font that matches the attribute information is se-
lected as the active font. If an exact match cannot be made between the desired attributes
and the actual existing fonts, the selected font is the one that best matches the desired
attributes. According to the following table, the high priority items are checked first for a
match and then the lower priority items. Once the best match is found, the rest of the at-
tribute information is not used.

4 Character height (Height: point size)
5 Character style (Upright/Italic)
6 Stroke weight (Light, Medium, Bold)
Low 7 Typeface (Courier, Times, etc.)
8 Resolution (600 dpi Bitmap)
9 Location (Soft font Resident font)
10 Orientation (Portrait, Landscape)
