7.4 Down Line Loading Fonts
Each down line loading font is abbreviated as DLL.
DLLs are bitmap font DLL and scalable font DLL.
The number of fonts that can be down line loaded to respective B4300 printers depends on
the RAM capacities they have. The maximum number of bitmap and scalable fonts that can
exist concurrently in each of them is 32,768 in total (for HP emulation).
7.4.1 Bitmap DLL Fonts
Support for a compacted bitmap data format is provided for HP emulation.
7.4.2 Scalable DLL Fonts
Down line loading data formats of scalable fonts are an Intellifont-based format (which is called
PCLeo) and a TrueType-based format.
7.5 FONT (POSTSCRIPT3 EMULATION)
Types of fonts
Fonts can mainly be divided into Bit Map Fonts and Scalable Fonts (Outline Font).
a) Type-1 Scalable Fonts
(1) Scalable Fonts are fonts in which the coordinate position of the edges of the character
image was numericalized based on certain mathematical formulas. By patternizing to
Bit Map patterns using an exclusive rasterizer, character images are formed for print.
(2) Type-1 fonts are a program described in PostScript language, and are not data col-
umns.
(3) There are some types of mathematical formulas, but Type-1 fonts apply tertiary Bezier.
(4) As rasterizing is time-consuming, characters that have been patternized into Bit Map
patterns are to be registered in cache memory.
b) Type-42 Scalable Fonts
As PostScript Interpreter supports TrueType fonts, it supports Type-42 fonts. The TrueType
fonts used in the document by the user is converted to Type-42 by the printer driver on the
host computer side, and is then sent to the printer. Thus, TrueType fonts are supported.
c) Type-3 Scalable Fonts
Although Type-3 fonts were used in early PostScript printers, they aren’t possessed as
residents in this device. The printer driver on the host computer side downloads the fonts
as Type-3 mainly when the fonts that don’t exist in the printer are used in documents.
Type-3 fonts are supported with this device.
d) Type-43 Scalable Fonts
Type-43 fonts is a special type for PostScript made from Xionics making the MicroType font
made from Agfa a PostScript font, and enabling use of it.
Type-43 fonts is used as the PS Resident Fonts with this device.
